Don't know if you know much of the Doug Sahm story - he's
not nearly as well known as Jerry Jeff or even as Freddy Fender - but
he was the real deal.
Here's
the obit. There was the predictable "he died so young" comment - and
one of his cohorts remarked "amazing he lived that long". (;>)

The
Kachina Lodge in Taos is a fixture. Old "motor court" style, but with a
big main lodge - good food and live music. They have a huge collection
of poppies that have reseeded. It's quite a sight when they're in
bloom. If you're ever in Taos and have time for a drink - or coffee -
stop and see it. It's on the main drag on your way out of town toward
the ski run.
